My Goal
USD 2,000

This Page is fundraising for:

Eighty percent of blindness is avoidable, and for as little as US$30, a person’s sight can be restored. Seeing is Believing is a collaboration between the International Agency for Prevention of Blindness and Standard Chartered Bank. Together we’ve set an ambitious target of raising $100m by 2020 to tackle preventable blindness. Every time someone makes a donation, Standard Chartered will match it dollar for dollar – doubling the impact of the pledge.

Page information:

Dear friends and family,

I’ll be cycling in the 2014 Ride for Sight event, a 260 mile bike ride from Boston to New York on June 23 - June 25. Standard Chartered Bank is sponsoring a team of cyclists to complete the 3-day ride to raise USD100,000+ for Seeing is Believing, a collaboration between the Bank and IAPB (the International Agency for Preventable Blindness). The Bank will match all funds raised by the cyclists.
Please help me fundraise to reach my goal of USD2,000 so that collectively the team can reach our USD100,000 target for Seeing is Believing.

Did you know that:

• There are 39 million blind people in the world.
• A further 246 million people have moderate or severe visual impairment.
• 80% of blindness and visual impairment is avoidable (meaning preventable or treatable).
• 90% of blind people live in the developing world.
• Globally, 1.4 million children are blind
• Tackling blindness is one of the most cost-effective health interventions. A sight-restoring cataract operation costs as little as USD 30.

Every time someone makes a donation, Standard Chartered will match it dollar for dollar – doubling the impact of the pledge.

Thank you for your support!

The challenge is to complete training and be in good shape before the ride.
As far as I am concern, I am the only participant from Latin America.

Rodolfo Amaro

I am a banker based in Mexico City who loves sports. I am a former road biker that eventually became mountain biker.
I find Ride for Sight a challenging event to return to road bike and at the same time helping for a good cause.
I've been a banker for the last 18 years, of which 13 have been with Standard Chartered Bank covering Financial Institutions clients.

I take this ride seriously; I just got a new bike that is suit to the event. I am the only participant from Latin America.

I am thankful to Standard Chartered Bank for this opportunity. In 2005 I also participated in Standard Chartered's Greatest Race on Earth Singapore Marathon.

Please help with your donation to achieve the goal for this good cause.

Goodwill Messages from donors

Goodwill message from donor   Rodolfo, my donation goes in recognition to your outstanding effort in overcoming obstacles, including the loss of your bike and the pain of the fall. Yet you stood up, cured your bruises, bought a new bike, and made the finish line! Great example to us all - and for a great cause. Julio Malo
