Call me crazy...but I have signed up for:
* 260 miles
* 3 days
* Cycling from Boston to New York City with 50 Standard Chartered colleagues
* Lots of pain... but all for a great cause - Seeing is Believing
I have foolishly (at least that is what Elaine said !) volunteered for the 2014 Ride for Sight event, a 260 mile bike ride from Boston to New York on June 23 - June 25. I am the definition of novice cyclist - the last time I owned a bike, Margaret Thatcher was in her first term as Prime Minister ! However, having invested in a new bike and with colleagues/peer pressure spurring me to train, I am confident that I will complete the event.
Standard Chartered Bank is sponsoring the team as we seek to raise USD100,000+ for Seeing is Believing, a collaboration between the Bank and IAPB (the International Agency for Preventable Blindness). The Bank will match all funds raised. To date, Seeing is Believing has reached 45 million people in some of the world’s poorest communities by giving them access to eye-care services, funding projects to prevent blindness and restore vision. 80% of the world’s blindness is avoidable. Incredibly, a person’s sight can be restored for as little as USD$30.
Please give what you can, your contributions make an enormous impact. Loss of sight often results in social exclusion, making blind people vulnerable to abuse, poverty and early death. Help us to help others see by donating now.
Date: June 23-June 25, 2014
Location: Boston, MA to New York, NY, USA
Funds collected are delivered to the beneficiary charity
