For the fourth year running, Trafigura is taking part in the 'Paddle for Cancer Dragon Boat Festival' on Sunday 3rd September at the Lac de Joux and we’re looking for volunteers to help us paddle our way across the finish line and to raise money for two great local charities: the English Speaking Cancer Association (ESCA) and Camarada.
ESCA is a non-profit association made up of professional counsellors and trained volunteers who provide those affected by cancer with emotional support, practical help and information in English within Geneva, Vaud and neighbouring France. www.cancersupport.ch
Camarada is a Geneva-based charity that provides language, literacy and skill training courses to migrant women and their children. The support provided and skills acquired allow those women and children to gain confidence and a quicker insertion into Geneva’s cultural and professional life. www.camarada.ch
This year the we have set ourselves the ambitious target of raising CHF100,000 with all proceeds raised then matched by the Trafigura Foundation. We would therefore encourage you to not only dig deep and donate generously but to reach out to friends and family in order to raise as much money as possible.
The dragon boat races are open to people of all levels and ages and for those of you who are not keen on getting wet, we have our own luxury lakeside tent stacked full of food and drink where you can relax and cheer on our racers.
Thank you for your support!
The Challenge:
Paddle for Cancer is ESCA's annual cancer awareness and fundraising event and brings together both the local and international communities to work together to help cancer patients and their loved ones directly. Cancer awareness is vital and can bring hope to what seems like an insurmountable challenge. The more that people are aware of cancer risks, they more likely they are to seek early screening, such as colonoscopies and mammograms. Early detection of cancer can dramatically increase survival rates. Awareness can also encourage people to adopt healthier lifestyles, reducing their chances of getting cancer.
